Cell Phone Thief Caught With Heroin, Police Say

East Orange man accused of stealing five cell phones from CVS and being in possession of heroin.

An East Orange man caught shoplifting several hundred dollars worth of cell phones from CVS was also found in possession of heroin, Cedar Grove Police said.

Rajahn D. Muata, 50, was charged with shoplifting, heroin possession and driving with a suspended license.

Muata was seen shoplifting five cell phones valued at $342.35 from CVS on Pompton Avenue on Sunday, July 28 at about 2 p.m., police said.

Officer Jeffrey McElroy conducted a motor vehicle stop of a car matching the description provided by a CVS employee, police said. The driver, Muata, was found with the five cell phones and four wax folds of heroin and two glass pipes, police said.

Muata is scheduled to be arraigned in State Superior Court in Newark on Thursday.
