Cedar Grove Police Report Uptick in Deer-Related Accidents

Multiple deer killed by vehicles in past week.

Cedar Grove Police are urging residents to be alert when driving through town after several deer were struck by cars in the past week.

In all four accidents, police said, the deer were either killed on impact or destroyed due to their severe injuries.

A badly injured deer was found near Pompton Avenue and Vincent Place on Monday, Sept. 16, around 6:13 p.m. The animal was struck by a vehicle that left the scene.

A vehicle traveling on Stevens Avenue at George Street struck a deer in the roadway on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 10:13 p.m.

On Thursday, Sept. 19, at 5:03 a.m., a deer was truck by a vehicle that left the scene in the area of 77 Ridge Road.

The fourth incident occurred on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 6:17 a.m., when a deer was struck by a motor vehicle at Pompton Avenue and Mawal Drive. That vehicle also left the scene.  

Police warn residents to be particularly careful when driving near wooded areas and between dusk and dawn.
