Car Versus Deer Crashes Continue in Cedar Grove

One car had to be towed from the scene, others left before police arrived.

Five crashes involving deer — two more than the previous week — were reported in Cedar Grove during the week of Nov. 4.

According to police reports, a deer was struck and killed near Pompton and Stevens avenues by a car traveling north on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The car sustained front-end damage.

Another deer was struck and badly injured on West Lindsley Road on Friday, Nov. 8. In this case, the car left the scene before police arrived and the animal was put down by police.

The next morning at 7:20 a.m., a deer was struck on Normal Avenue and also had to be killed due to the severity of its injuries. The car had left the scene of the crash.

A fourth deer was hit on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 12:09 a.m., on Pompton Avenue near Ridge Road. The car was damaged and towed from the scene. In this incident, the deer ran into the woods and was not found.

Later that day at 8:20 p.m., another deer was struck on Ridge Road. The vehicle left the scene and the animal was put down.

Due to the large deer population in the area, drivers are urged to use caution when operating near wooded areas, especially between dusk and dawn.
