The following arrest information was provided by Cedar Grove Police and does not indicate a conviction.
A township man faces multiple charges after he crashed his car into a BMW and a passenger bus, sending two people to the hospital Saturday afternoon, Cedar Grove Police said.
Nicholas P. Ferrigno, 58, is charged with assault by auto, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and being under the influence of a dangerous substance.
The accident took place at the intersection of Pompton Avenue and Church Street, where police say Ferrigno was driving south on Pompton in a 2013 Hyundai when he rear-ended a 1992 BMW stopped at a traffic light. After hitting the BMW, Ferrigno allegedly struck a NJ Transit bus which was also stopped at the light.
A passenger of the BMW and the driver of the bus suffered back injuries and were taken to Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge for treatment.
Officers on the scene detected the odor of alcohol on Ferrigno and he was asked to perform sobriety tests, police said.
Ferrigno was also in possession of and believed to be under the influence of a prescription narcotic drug, police said.
He was processed and released pending a Jan. 8 court date.
