Camera Captures Nanny Stealing From Purse, Police Say

Caldwell woman arrested for stealing from home in Cedar Grove where she worked as a nanny.

The following arrest information was provided by Cedar Grove Police. The subject is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A Cedar Grove woman is likely looking for a new childcare provider after police say she caught her nanny stealing cash from her purse.

Malka Wierzchowski, 49, was arrested by Cedar Grove Police at her employer's house on August 22 and charged with theft.

The victim claims Wierzchowski went into her handbag numerous times to take money, and she said she has video to prove it. 

The mom presented police with surveillance video of the nanny going into her purse on two occasions, stealing a total of $249, according to police.

Wierzchowski has an August 29 court date in Superior Court in Newark.

Cedar Grove Det./Sgt. John Kennedy and Det. Michael Tower investigated the theft.
