Cedar Grove Man Gets Rude Awakening—Literally

Bloomfield resident broke in and punched a man in the face as he slept, police said.

A Cedar Grove man was awoken early Saturday morning by an acquaintance punching him in the face, police said.

The Rose Terrace resident called police shortly before 2:30 a.m. to report that  Frederick J. Carter had broken into the home and began beating him while he slept, police said.

The victim told police Carter fled the scene in his vehicle before police arrived, the statement continued.

Officers located Carter shortly thereafter and arrested him on charges relating to the illegal entry of the victim’s home and the assault, police said.

The statement said police believe the alleged assault was a result of the victim’s involvement with a third person known to both men.

Police said Carter was released pending a July 17 arraignment in Superior Court in Newark.
