The following arrest information was provided by Cedar Grove Police. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
A Roseland man police say grabbed a wallet out of a woman’s purse in a local supermarket turned himself into Cedar Grove Police, Chief Richard Vanderstreet said Tuesday.
Jason Marx, 35, was arrested without incident and charged with theft on Tuesday, August 13, at 11:05 a.m.
Surveillance video and photographs released by Cedar Grove Police days earlier led to identifying Marx as the man they say reached into a pocketbook left unattended in a shopping cart at the Foodtown on Pompton Avenue on August 5.
Vanderstreet said multiple people called to identify the alleged thief as Marx.
Marx is being held in Essex County Jail in lieu of bail. He is scheduled to appear in Cedar Grove Municipal Court on Wednesday, August 28.
