Essex County residents living on or near county roads should hold off placing leaves by the curb for pickup until the weekend prior to the announced pickup date, county officials said.
Leaf collections on county roads will begin at the end of the month and continue into 2013 depending on location.
The county has divided leaf pickup into four sections, with three pickups in each of those sections.
Residents whose properties are on county roads may place their leaves in biodegradable bags or sweep the loose leaves into piles at the curb during the weekend before the scheduled pickup, county officials said.
The sections and schedules are as follows:
- Section I: (Cedar Grove, Millburn and West Orange) Monday, Oct. 29 to Friday, Nov. 2; Monday, Nov. 26 to Friday, Nov. 30; and Monday, Dec. 24 to Friday, Dec. 28, excluding Christmas Day.
- Section II: (South Orange and Maplewood) Monday, Nov. 5 to Friday, Nov. 9; Monday, Dec. 3 to Friday, Dec. 7; and Monday, Dec. 31 to Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, excluding New Year’s Day.
- Section III: (Belleville and East Orange) Monday, Nov. 12 to Friday, Nov. 16; Monday, Dec. 10 to Friday, Dec. 14; and Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 to Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 (The last pick up will be made only if it is needed).
- Section IV: (Irvington, Newark and Orange) Monday, Nov. 19 to Friday, Nov. 23; Monday, Dec. 17 to Friday, Dec. 21; and Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 to Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 (The last pick up will be made only if it is needed).
The county has entered into shared services agreements with Bloomfield, Caldwell, Essex Fells, Fairfield, Glen Ridge, Livingston, Montclair, North Caldwell, Nutley, Roseland, Verona and West Caldwell. In these municipalities, the local department of public works will collect leaves on county roads.
