Halloween Party Raises Money for St. Jude Children's Hospital

The third annual Halloween party organized by a local DJ and sponsored by local businesses, drew a crowd of more than 250 residents.

Businesses in Verona and Cedar Grove donated all kinds of items for a private Halloween party organized by two local companies.

Automatic Entertainment DJ's and Julina Designs have organized the Halloween party for the past three years, with all proceeds going to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

“Every year it has gotten bigger and bigger,” said Emilio Damato, DJ for Automatic Entertainment DJ's. “This year we are going to double what we had last year.”

The first year raised $1,500 and the second year raised $2,600. This year, they hope to raise $5,000 said Damato.

“All the proceeds go to St. Jude,” he said. “We aren't trying to make money off this, we just want the kids to be able to have fun.”

Many Verona and Cedar Grove businesses have donated food, candy, gift certificates or other items as giveaways.

The event was held Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Cedar Grove VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 6255, located at 970 Pompton Ave.

“We had 250 people registered and about 90 percent were from either Verona or Cedar Grove,” said Damato. “It was a great time of music giveaways, surprises and candy.”

“All the businesses in town have been very generous,” he said.
