Verona Police Urge Residents to Get Flu Vaccine

The Verona Police Department reminds residents to get a flu shot due to increased reports of the flu.

Verona Police Department issued the following message through the NIXLE Alert System:

Due to the increase and severity of Influenza (flu) cases being reported, we are sending out this reminder that Flu vaccines are recommended by the US Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). The flu season runs through March, so it is not too late to receive the immunization.

Adults should contact their physicians with any questions, and to see if they administer the vaccine. If needed, vaccine is available on the first and third Monday of the month from 9 a.m. – 12 noon at the Montclair Health Dept. (973-509-4980). Vaccines are also available at many local pharmacies (CVS, Walgreens, etc).

For children, parents should contact their pediatrician and if vaccine is not available, parents can call the Verona Health Dept. for resources.

If you become ill and think you have the flu, DO NOT delay in seeking medical attention. Your physician can do a rapid test to determine if you actually have the flu and provide you with antiviral medication which may shorten the duration and severity of the illness.

For additional information on influenza, please visit the CDC website (www.cdc.gov/flu), or visitwww.Flu.gov

Please remember that hand washing is one VERY important and simple way to help stop the spread of germs.
