Presidents' Day and State of the County Address in the Week Ahead

Find out what's going on this week in Verona and Cedar Grove.

Monday is President's Day which means all municipal offices and schools will be closed in both Verona and Cedar Grove. See what else is closed on Monday.

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr. will present his 10th State of the County address on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Essex County Hospital Center, 204 Grove St. in Cedar Grove. The address will be attended by Gov. Chris Christie, state Senate President Stephen Sweeney and state Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver.

The Verona Township Council will meet for a regularly scheduled session on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at town hall. During the last meeting, Township Engineer Jim Helb presented this year's road projects to the council.

The attached agenda shows among other business, the council will introduce a $1.6 million capital improvement ordinance and appoint the township attorney for a one-year term.

The Cedar Grove Planning Board is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. No meeting agenda was available.

The Verona Board of Education does not meet this week but a video of the last session will be made available on Tuesday with all the key times from the debate on whether the board should create a new safety position or hire an outside safety auditor. The township of Cedar Grove is hosting a Winter Rabies Clinic on Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Cedar Grove Municipal Building, 525 Pompton Ave. Cedar Grove. Dogs will be seen from 6-6:45 p.m. Cats will be seen from 6:45 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Licensing is also available during the clinic.

Cedar Grove Public Library, located at 1 Municipal Plaza in Cedar Grove, holds a knitting club, Knitting Knitch, every Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
