CVS pharmacies has been drawing a lot of attention lately from police following several fraud incidents where customers have been trying obtain controlled dangerous substances.

Verona Schools Seek Advertising Revenue

The New York Yankees are coming to Verona — at least virtually.

The Verona Board of Education unanimously approved a measure Tuesday night that will allow paid advertising to appear on its website as an alternative form of revenue.

The district will hire an advertising company to place ads on the site. If successful, the district may look into getting a sponsor for the Friday Folder email blast or even ads on the Verona High School football field.

Kessler Foundation Hosts Benefit Thursday

The Kessler Foundation held a Jersey-Shore-themed night at the Grove, Thursday, to raise money for people with disabilities affected by Hurricane Sandy.

“Rebuilding Lives After Hurricane Sandy: A Benefit for People with Disabilities,” featured comedian Jeff Norris, a New Jersey native, the premiere 80’s cover band — the Emulators — and The Platinum Band.

Two Injured in Tuesday Afternoon Accident

Cedar Grove police have ticketed a 49-year-old man following a car accident Tuesday afternoon in Cedar Grove that sent two people to the hospital.

Enrico B. Belen of Little Falls was driving a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder north on Pompton Avenue near Bradford Avenue at approximately 3:20 p.m., Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet said, when he collided with a 2011 Chevy pickup, driven by J.C. Smith of Lincoln Park. Smith was traveling in the opposite direction.

Youth Soccer Club Fundraiser for Diabetes

The Cedar Grove Soccer Club will hold its first Kicks for a Cause to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Saturday, officials announced recently.

The soccer club is a non-profit group dedicated to promoting soccer throughout the township. The club consists of Cedar Grove alumni who coach soccer for children from pre-K to eighth grade.

Verona Veterans Day Ceremony Held Sunday

Families and friends gathered at Verona Veteran's Day Celebration at the Verona Town Hall.

Officials, including Mayor Frank Sapienza, and soldiers recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Sapienza addressed the crowd, then laid a wreath at the township's war memorial before the Verona Band Jazz Ensemble performed.

Letter to the Editor: Cedar Grove Fire Chief Michael Tower

The Cedar Grove Fire Department responded to forty-five fire calls from Monday, Oct. 29 to Sunday, Nov. 4. Some of those calls included power lines down, carbon monoxide alarms, and fire alarms.

The most notable calls were when an electrical line fell next to the public library, subsequently, causing a nearby storage shed to catch fire. After several hours the fire was extinguished when the entire town lost power.

OLL School Raises Nearly $300 for Charity

Our Lady of the Lake School in Verona raised $291 for the Minette Grosso McKenna Angel Foundation (Minette’s Angels), a local charitable foundation that provides comfort and support to women and their families who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Students each paid $1 or more to be able to wear anything pink of their choice instead of their school uniforms.

On Friday November 9th, the Verona Policemen's Benevolent Association Local 72 in cooperation with Goman's Moving Company Inc. organized a collection for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

The collection was held for two days and on Saturday November 10th, after loading up the last of the donations, Verona P.B.A. members along with the owners of Goman’s Moving Company, pulled away from the Kings Supermarket and set out for the hour-long trip to Ocean County’s Borough of Bay Head.
