Cedar Grove Student Inducted into Collegiate Honor Society

Christopher Farra, an undergrad student at Fordham University, was inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Cedar Grove resident Christopher Farra was recently inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, a selective national collegiate honor society.

Farra, who is pursuing a degree in Finance at Fordham University, was nominated into the honor society for his high academic achievements.

“Everything I did was based on academic achievement," said Farra. "The reason I wanted to join is that is has a reputable history and I worked very hard the last few years to get the grades I've gotten."

Farra moved to Cedar Grove in 2009 after graduating from Morristown-Beard School in Morristown.

"I feel I have succeeded the past four years," he said. "Coming into college I never excelled, I did well but never excelled. I put my mind to it and now I feel I can be competitive."

According to Hannah Breaux, a communications specialist for The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the honor society is by invitation only for Juniors who rank in the top 7.5 percent of their class and Seniors who rank in the top 10 percent.

Farra is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.

"It's a big honor and I'm happy to be nominated," said Farra. "Fordham is a great school and I was fortunate enough to land in a top business program."

The mission of the Honor Society is “to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.”

Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine. Its most notable alumni include former President Jimmy Carter, NASA astronaut Wendy Lawrence, novelist David Baldacci and YouTube cofounder Chad Hurley.
