Black Bear and Cubs Spotted in Cedar Grove

Cedar Grove Police are monitoring a family of black bears, spotted by residents Wednesday morning. The mother and three cubs are thought to be the same black bear family found foraging through West Caldwell on Sunday.

Verona Football Must Be Moved Because of Sinkhole

Verona’s home football games will have to be moved off of the main football field to a lower field, school officials said late last week.

That’s because of a sinkhole has opened on the field and a preliminary report showing there are other problems underneath the field’s surface – including metal under the field’s northeast corner.

Medevac Transports Verona Trauma Victim

A man with multiple stab wounds was airlifted to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson Monday after a medical rescue helicopter landed on a Verona field.

Witnesses said the man, who's name was not released, appeared to be in his 50s and because of his wounds, he needed to be transported to the nearest trauma hospital.

Disoriented Man Arrested at CVS

A 48-year-old West Orange man was arrested after he tried to pick up a prescription from a pharmacy while he was allegedly under the influence of a drug.

Cedar Grove police said Scott P. Dellosso allegedly drove to the CVS Pharmacy at 387 Pompton Ave. in Cedar Grove and was waiting for the prescription in the parking lot when witnesses said he appeared disoriented and called police.

Real Housewives Star to Shop at Fundraiser

One of the stars of the hit Bravo TV show, “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” will be special guest of honor at a benefit to aid Cedar Grove resident Frank Napolitano, who is battling various forms of cancer.

Jacqueline Laurita will take part in a Fall Harvest Shopping Extravaganza at a Sassy Shop Girl Events sale, according to organizer Edel Di Gagi.

Verona LukOil Hikes Price to $8.89/gal

Harjinder Kehal, owner of the LukOil gas station at 655 Bloomfield Ave. in Verona, has seen it all in his 15 years as gasoline franchise dealer in Verona.

That is, until the morning of Sept. 12.

At around 10:30 that day, Kehal joined about 50 other LukOil's around the state setting the price of gasoline on his pumps at more than $8 a gallon to protest the extra 5 to 20 cents LukOil suppliers charge franchises.

Cedar Grove Contractor Sentenced for Bribery

A Cedar Grove contractor, who spent thousands of dollars bribing a Union County port employee to steer business his way, was sentenced Wednesday to 30 months in prison, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said.

Louis Gargiulo, 58, spent thousands of dollars between 2000 and 2011 providing kickbacks to Donald Olesky, who was then the director of facilities maintenance at Maher Terminal, Port Elizabeth.

Verona's Hobcaw Cafe Closes

After slightly more than two years of serving the Verona community with fresh, Southern-inspired food, Verona’s popular Hobcaw Cafe permanently closed its doors Tuesday.

Nancy McArthur, a National Gourmet Institute graduate opened the restaurant in May 2010 offering seasonal menus, featuring Southern-inspired food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, using only fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.
