Featured Adoptable Pet: Smokey

Divorce doesn't just affect the people in a family, it can affect pets too. Unfortunately, Smokey is a prime example of this situation, and has yet to find unconditional love.

My name is Smokey and I was surrendered to the shelter by my owners because they got a divorce and suddenly I was unwanted.  At first I was really scared being in a strange place, couldn’t understand why I was in a cage and was really sad that I no longer had a home after years of being an adored family pet.

I’ve always been a well-behaved kitty and showed my family how much I loved them, but they just left me behind like I didn’t matter anymore.  I thought that love was supposed to last forever, but it seems that divorce can affect pets too.  Its hard for me to understand this though because I loved them unconditionally and I thought they loved me too.

But, thankfully I’ve been given a second chance at the Wayne Township Animal Shelter to find a new owner that will show me real love this time around.  However, I’ve been here for such a long time watching people pass me by and I just don’t understand why since I’m a really good cat, have a fun personality, very playful and well behaved!  Yet I’m still waiting here for someone to notice me just once and think that maybe I’m worth giving a chance, instead of that other cat in the cage next to mine.

When I see you come through the door, I promise if you just give me a chance and stop at my cage for awhile you’ll love me, but not as much as I’ll love you for rescuing me from my shelter cage.
