Verona Couple Brings Baked in a Cup to Essex County

A (baker's) dozen things you need to know about the new bakery in town.

Joanne and Edwin Medina used to drive more than 30 minutes to eat cupcakes from Baked in a Cup in Ramsey. 

This week, the Verona couple introduced their favorite cupcakes to Essex County, opening the second Baked in a Cup location at 549 Pompton Ave. in Cedar Grove. 

Here are a (baker's) dozen things you need to know about the bakery that says, "You've tasted the rest, now come taste the best."

1. All cupcakes are baked from scratch on the premises. The strawberry filling is made from real strawberries, cookie toppings are made in-house, etc.

2. They are known for their ultra-light, swiss butter creme frosting.

3. More than 30 varieties are available each season, with featured flavors changing throughout the week. 

4. Cupcakes are never on the racks for more than two days, so if you are eating one chances are it was baked that morning. 

5. Red Velvet is one of their most popular flavors. 

6. Arabica created a signature Red Velvet coffee for Baked in a Cup. 

7. Holiday flavors include eggnog, candy cane, s'mores and gingerbread. 

8. The shop hosts cupcake decorating birthday parties. 

9. Cupcakes are $2.75 each, $15 for a half-dozen, and $29 for a dozen. 

10. Wednesday is a buy a dozen, get a free cupcake day. 

11. Joanne and the other pastry chefs start their day at 4 a.m.

12. Mini and jumbo cupcakes are available by special order.

13. Mouth watering yet? A grand opening celebration is planned for Saturday, Dec. 14. There will be giveaways and free tastings.
