Local Actors Appear on Stage This Summer

Cedar Grove and Verona residents will appear in two upcoming community theater productions.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Davis Lemley, of Cedar Grove, and Janine Miscia Barboza, a teacher at Cedar Grove High School, star as Leaf Coneybear and Rona Lisa Peretti in Pleasant Valley Productions’ The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

The musical comedy tells the story of six quirky yet charming youngsters competing for the local spelling bee championship. These competitors are in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learning that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser.

Performances will take place at Luna Stage, 555 Valley Road in West Orange, from Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July 21, at 8 p.m. There will be Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Into the Woods

Verona residents Marsha Schreier and Kevin Ohlweiler will appear as The Witch and Steward respectively in New Jersey Arts Incubator’s upcoming production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods.

The show will be performed at the NJAI’s Community Theater at the Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center, 4 Boland Drive, in West Orange.

Performances are July 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28. Friday ad Saturday shows are at 8 p.m., Sunday shows are at 7 p.m.

The outdoor venue opens each night an hour before the performance.

Bring your own blankets and chairs.

Tickets are $5 for adults. Children are free. All tickets will be available at the gate.
