What Would You Improve in Verona-Cedar Grove in 2013?

If you could make a New Year's resolution for Verona or Cedar Grove, what would it be?

More than 45 percent of Americans make a resolution every year, according to statisticbrain.com. Some people vow to live a healthier lifestyle, others promise to spend more time with family, and many say they will try to save money.

As millions of Americans make resolutions to improve their lives, what could we do right here in Verona and Cedar Grove to make it an even better place to live?

“I am looking forward to good relations between the Council and the Chamber of Commerce,” said Verona Deputy Mayor Bob Manley. “I am optimistic about working together and I also look forward to continuing a great relationship with the Board of Education.”

“Everyone is on the same page here which makes things better for the town,” he said.

Cedar Grove Mayor Peter Tanella is making a New Years resolution for Cedar Grove to improve communications.

“We are looking into ways we can better communicate with residents in similar events to Super Storm Sandy and improve integrated communications with residents,” said Tanella.

What is on your Verona-Cedar Grove wish list? What is one thing you would improve in 2013?

Try to make our Town Council and Board of Education Members come to the realization that we live in Verona, New Jersey and not Beverly Hills as it relates to spending our tax dollars. Everyone has to realize that ALL people hope to wind up being senior citizens and when senior citizenship becomes a factual reality, retirement monies are not always enough. If seniors on Social Security have to live with NO INCREASE IN COLA (cost of living adjustments), then our leaders have to realize that it is time to make it fair for everyone, especially town employees that keep getting their raises. Might I add, more so than a majority of the towns in NJ. The answer is DEFINITELY NOT, and I quote a remark made by a Board of Ed member, "IF THE SENIORS CAN'T AFFORD IT, THEY SHOULD MOVE."

Don't let the overdeveloped, irresponsible and dangerous project on the Westview Road/Bloomfield Avenue Site go forward. 6-8 months of loud and shattering drilling endangering so many houses in the surrounding area, traffic problems for now and forever on Bloomfield Avenue, loss of green space, etc. Come out to the Zoning Board final meeting (1/10, 8:00) at The Community Center to hear what the community has to say and share your concerns And while I'm at it, can we not have in any new space in Verona, either a nail salon, pizzeria/italian Restaurant or convenience store? Surely we can be more creative in our town like Caldwell, Montclair and surrounding communities have accomplished.
