What's Going on at Temple Sholom of West Essex?

Events, activities, trips all taking place at temple in next few weeks.

It will be a busy Spring at Temple Sholom of West Essex in Cedar Grove. The congregation has planned the following events and activities:

The temple will commemorate Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, on Friday evening, April 20 , at 6:30 p.m.

At that time, the temple will engage in an act of legacy perpetuation. During the service, a special mantle will be dedicated to a Holocaust Torah Scroll from Czechoslovakia.

Congregant Peter Layne has worked to recreate the original Torah mantle from the Torah for the occasion.

The congregation’s ongoing program to restore a letter in the Holocaust scroll is also continuing.

Scribal sessions will take place on Sunday, April 29 and Sunday, May 20. Timeslots are now available by calling the office for a donation form. The minimum donation is $72 for two writers.

Pianist Evan Mitchell will present a free piano recital featuring Liszt’s “Sonata in B minor” on Sunday, April 15 beginning at 2 p.m.

The recital is being sponsored by Dr. Lynne B. Harrison.

On Saturday, April 21, Ruth Frankel will lead a discussion on Peter Manseau’s book, “Songs for the Butcher’s Daughter” at the temple.

The discussion, beginning at 10:45 a.m., will feature questions about the book to enliven the discussion.

Coffee and cookies will be provided.

On Thursday, May 17, the temple will offer a trip to New York City’s Jewish Museum.

The bus leaves the temple at 9:30 a.m. and will feature a tour of specially chosen exhibits led by docents at the museum.

Cost for the trip is $55. For more details, click here.
