Verona Teen Finishes First in Labor Day Classic

This year's event held in memory of the late Bruce Williams, a member of Verona UNICO.

With a time of 19:20.13, Melanie Egan, 17, of Verona, was the top female finisher in the Verona Labor Day Classic 5K race Monday. Ben Clarke, 29, of Morristown was the top male finisher in the 5K with a time of 16:41.23. 

Nearly 750 runners and walkers participated in the 31st annual event, which consists of both a 5K course through the streets of Verona and a 1-mile run and walk in Verona Park.

Awards and Fleet Feet gift certificates were presented to the top three finishers in five-year age groups. 

The run was co-directed by Verona Unico and the Essex County Running Club. This year's event was held in memory of UNICO member Bruce Williams, who recently passed away.
