Be sure to check out the "Butterfly Tent Safari" at the Essex County Environmental Center, 621B Eagle Rock Ave., Roseland, NJ. The Safari is open from Monday, July 16 through Friday, July 27, 2012  -12 Noon to 3 p.m. The Butterfly Tent Safari is for all ages. Flutter on over and visit the live butterfly tent. All are welcome to participate in table activities and make a take-home butterfly craft. There is a $2 suggested donation to the Essex County Parks Foundation. For information, call 973-228-8776.

CEDAR GROVE

WHY GO: An art major in college, Hall has been practicing her craft for more than 40 years. Working in opaque watercolors, the exhibit will feature 13 pieces painted between 2002 and 2011.

WHY GO: The idea is to relax, let go and restore. The room is dark and candlelit, music is soft and relaxing. You have a full hour of relaxation postures with the help of props, blocks, blankets and pillows to make you comfortable while you open your hips, chest, shoulders and your mind. This class is free but we will accept donations each month for a different worthy cause.

WHY GO: This summer, NJPAC and NJYT are taking their show on the road, presenting Smokey Joe’s Cafe, Broadway’s longest-running musical revue, at Montclair State University's Alexander Kasser Theater. Smokey Joe’s Cafe is a nostalgic, neon-lit juke box musical that collects the timeless hit list created by the team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Set in an idealized 1950’s era, the show spotlights a golden age of American music and pop culture with electrifying renditions of titles like “On Broadway,” “Stand by Me,” “Spanish Harlem,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Hound Dog,” “Yakety Yak,” “Poison Ivy,” “Charlie Brown,” “Love Potion #9,” and dozens more.

WHEN: The festivities begin on Friday evening, 6 to 11 p.m. and continue on Saturday and Sunday 4 to 11 p.m.
WHY GO: There will be plenty of good food, a wine & beer garden, rides, games of chance, 50/50’s. There will be entertainment every evening as well. Bring your own chair. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be street fair with more than 40 vendors. Vespers of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel will be celebrated on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, there will be a Mass in honor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel at Noon, and the statue of Our Lady will be carried through the streets from 5 to 7 p.m.

WHEY GO: A 30-minute gentle group Stretch Class, Wine, Cheese, and networking!  Join us for our monthly "Sip-N-Stretch" sessions. Relax and unwind in our gentle 30-minute stretch class and release tension that’s been held in the body. Afterwards, Sip some wine, eat some cheese, and network. 
COST: $10 – A portion of the proceeds will benefit a local family in need caring for an autistic child.

WHY GO: Montclair Mud Fun's second annual celebration. Join us for an evening of mud, live African drumming and refreshments. Featuring the barefoot mud stomping dance, the mud blob passing dance, and mud building and sculpting. Join the audience or join in the activities. Learn about unfired earthen masonry, which includes adobe and cob. Our skin loves mud and this is the proof. Soft, mushy, gooey, sloppy, virgin clay-rich subsoil from upper Montclair. We will be adding to the structure we started last summer. This event is for the general public and all ages.

WHEN: Saturday  Noon to 4 p.m.
WHY GO: Open to all, the street party promises succulent food, a bunch of fun activities for the kids and great, groovy music – plus the chance to meet all the sweet, affectionate neighborhood animals needing and deserving new homes. Admission is free, though a small monetary donation will be required for food and activities. Residents are also encouraged to bring in-kind donations: items such as cat litter, pet food, pet toys, laundry detergent, old newspapers, and used-but-unsoiled linens like blankets, towels and pet beds are always appreciated. Local vendors on-site will donate a portion of their proceeds from the day. All proceeds raised from the outdoor event will go towards helping the shelter’s animals.
