This week a fun film for all ages  – “The Tale Of Despereaux”! The tale of three unlikely heroes - a misfit mouse who prefers reading books to eating them, an unhappy rat who schemes to leave the darkness of the dungeon, and a bumbling servant girl with cauliflower ears - whose fates are intertwined with that of the castle's princess.

VERONA

WHY GO: Our mission starts and ends with helping you achieve your weight loss or fitness goals in a fun, supportive, community rich with people who will encourage you towards your goals. Our free workouts are on Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m.

WHY GO: Bring your pets to the Blessing of the Animals. The blessing will be on the front lawn of the church. In case of rain, service will be indoors. Bring your pets - dogs (on leash, please), kitties, birds, hamsters, fish, lizards, etc. Camels, cows, caribous, chickens, crabs and clams are also welcome.

WHY GO: The idea is to relax, let go and restore. The room is dark and candle lit, music is soft and relaxing. You have a full hour of relaxation postures with the help of props, blocks, blankets and pillows to make you comfortable while you open your hips, chest, shoulders and your mind. This class is Free but we will accept donations each month for a different worthy cause. 

NEWARK

WHY GO: First Friday has been the premiere Happy Hour / Networking / Party for the Urban Professional in the New Jersey/New York metro area since 1987. You do not need to be a member to attend. The event (held the first friday of every month) features a Cocktail Hour where professionals meet and network. from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. At 9:00PM, the 'After Party' in the main dining room begins.

WHY GO: Come take a leisurely trip down the Hackensack River on a quiet summer’s evening. This two-hour tour of the Meadowlands will be conducted by trained captains and hosted by NJMC staff. Learn about the salt marshes, shore birds, Leni Lenape Indians, pirates, and much of our fascinating history along the banks of the river. Feel free to bring snacks, dinner and beverages (non-alcoholic only, please!).

WHY GO: The Newark Museum's Dreyfuss Planetarium is a dynamic  interactive digital theater for learning about space and science. Two exciting planetarium shows will be offered to kids and adults. The Planetarium will feature Zula Patrol 2 at 1:30 & 2:30 p.m. In their latest adventure, a routine fossil-hunting mission launches The Zula Patrol on a rollicking ride into Earth’s past!  (Recommended for children ages 5 to 9; 35 minutes)   At 3:30 p.m. Heart of the Sun examines the Sun up close, describes how it creates the light that warms us and makes life possible here on Earth, and is used as a source of renewable energy. (Recommended for adults and children ages 10 and up; 35 minutes)

WHY GO: "The Fugitive Kind". The Fugitive Kind is a 1959 American drama film directed by Sidney Lumet - Starring Marlon Brando and Joanne Woodward. Valentine "Snakeskin" Xavier, a guitar-playing drifter, flees New Orleans in order to avoid arrest. He finds work in a small-town five-and-dime owned by an embittered older woman known as Lady Torrance, whose vicious husband Jabe lies on his deathbed in their apartment above the store. Both alcoholic nymphomaniac Carol Cutrere and simple housewife Vee Talbott set their sights on the newcomer, but Val succumbs to the charms of Lady, who plans to set him up with a refreshment bar. Sheriff Talbott, a friend of Jabe, threatens to kill Val if he remains in town, but he chooses to stay when he discovers Lady is pregnant. His decision sparks Jabe's jealousy and leads to tragic consequences. (1959   121 min)

WHY GO: Treat yourself to a heart-filling afternoon of brass pageantry, as the students of the Gramercy Brass Orchestra Band Camp, accompanied by their mentors, showcase the results of their week of intensive training. Guest Artists: Conductor/Composer Johan De Meji and Euphonium soloist Jason Ham.

WHEN: Saturday  9 to 10 a.m.
WHY GO: The weekly Shabbat Morning Parsha Study group meets with Susan Werk to study the weekly Torah Portion. There is hidden meaning and learning within each parsha. Our active, engaged group of adults dissects the words searching for the true meaning of the text, and often applying it to our every-day lives.

WHY GO: ARTIE LANGE Comedy Night fundraiser hosted by the West Essex PBA Local 81. The show will feature Artie Lange, formerly of the Howard Stern Show, comedian Kevin Dombrowski and the 2012 Strolling Magician of the Year, Will Fern. Artie Lange will stay after the show to sign memorabilia and T-shirts, which will be available for purchase at the event. Come support a great cause and have an enjoyable night out. Seating is General Admission and will be first com first served.
