Church Expansion Hearing Postponed Until Aug. 14

Official: Proposed hearing on project to enlarge St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church delayed because church not ready to proceed, working on some issues.

[Updated 11:49 a.m. Monday]
A Cedar Grove Zoning Board official said Monday the hearing scheduled for tomorrow night on expansion plans for the St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church and has been postponed and tentatively rescheduled the hearing for Aug. 14.

This morning, Cedar Grove Planning Zoning Coordinator Jackie Koster told Patch the church was not ready to proceed with presenting its plans tomorrow night before the zoning board and was working on some issues, causing the postponement.

On Monday, June 25, about a dozen residents of High Point in Cedar Grove attended the Cedar Grove Township Council meeting to petition the council and voice their concerns over a proposed expansion project for St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church.

The residents said they were concerned about water run-off from the parking lot, additional traffic on the surrounding roads, additional noise and pollution and potential negative impact on property values.

At the time, the council was unable to address any issues concerning the expansion because the issue has not yet come before them.

The remaining items on the board’s agenda tomorrow includes discussions of properties at 107 Oak Drive, 21 Ring Place and 30 Sherman Ave.
