Erik Spencer said he is retiring and moving to Massachusetts.

After 23 years of service, the pastor of Verona's First Presbyterian Church is stepping down to retire, according to the Verona-Cedar Grove Times.

Erik Spencer delivered his farewell sermon to the congregation of the Fairview Avenue church at a special service June 23 and was feted with a goodbye lunch.

Spencer told the Times that he sensed the time was right for him to step down from his leadership post, adding that he believes the church will move on with "dedication and faith" to face the challenges of the future.
