The Cedar Grove Soccer Club's first Kicks for a Cause event Saturday will raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The Cedar Grove Soccer Club will hold its first Kicks for a Cause to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Saturday, officials announced recently.

The soccer club is a non-profit group dedicated to promoting soccer throughout the township. The club consists of Cedar Grove alumni who coach soccer for children from pre-K to eighth grade.

“The main event will be a friendly co-ed match between the Cedar Grove Soccer Club Coaches and the Cedar Grove High School soccer teams,” the Soccer Club said in a written statement.

“I love the game more every day and being involved in the club makes me want to play more,” said Cedar Grove Soccer Club Vice President Greg Dilley. “All the coaches have a passion for the game.”

During halftime, those attending may participate in agility contests and get a chance to win prizes from the New York Red Bulls soccer team, including jerseys and t-shirts.

The event will also be supported by local businesses with music by Automatic Entertainment and frozen treats from Batchmakers Homemade Ice Cream. Grove Gear will also be selling Cedar Grove Soccer Club apparel.

“The most important thing is that it's bringing the community together,” said Dilley. “It's an opportunity for us all to descend on the park for a few hours, but what people will take away is to be able to mingle with with people whose kids play together on the field.”
