Cedar Grove UNICO: Be 'Italian for a Day'

Third annual La Festa Italiana planned for Sept. 27-29.

Everyone will be "Italian for a Day" at the Cedar Grove UNICO’s La Festa Italiana, Friday through Sunday, Sept. 27-29.

The Italian-American service organization will kick off a new year of activities with the festival. There will be free live entertainment, rides and other activities, as well as Italian food, beer and wine. Tickets will be sold for a 50/50 drawing — last year’s winner brought home more than $2,000.

Proceeds from the festival will once again go to the St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, The Jimmy V. Foundation, local scholarship programs and local first responder organizations.

"We are extremely proud of this event, which has come to bring pride to our community, while raising money for great causes," said Cedar Grove UNICO Vice President Pat DeFrancisci.

“Additionally, we are able to celebrate our Italian heritage in a way that so many people enjoy," DeFrancisci said. "We hope to continue this event annually with the support of the local school district and the community.”

UNICO was founded on Oct. 10, 1922 in Waterbury, Conn. by a group of 15 men, led by Dr. Anthony P. Vastola, who came together to create an Italian-American service organization to engage in charitable works, support higher education, and perform patriotic deeds.
