Pumpkin, Apple Sale at Morgan Farm

October is known for many things — crisp fall weather, the World Series and, of course, Halloween.

It’s also never too early to start your Halloween decorating. Each year, one of the most important parts of the season is the arrival of pumpkin season.

Join the Cedar Grove Historical Society at Morgan Farm, 903 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, for the annual pumpkin and apple sale, running from Saturday, Oct. 6 to Oct. 14.

Besides pumpkins and apples, many items will be available for sale including eggplant, tomatoes, herbs, corn stalks, hay, firewood and baked goods.

“The Historical Society has been doing this for well over 20 years,” said Secretary, Vice President and publicity chairman for the Cedar Grove Historical Society Jean Jaeger.

Courtenay Morgan, the last farmer in Cedar Grove, used to sell pumpkins from the front porch of his home every October before he left the whole property to the township in 1985, she said.

“The pumpkin sale originally started as an honor for him and has gotten larger as time has gone on,” said Jaeger.

In addition to purchasing food and other items, visitors will also have a chance to purchase “Cedar Grove,” a book detailing the history of the town, written by Jean Jaeger’s husband, Phil. Jaeger published the book in 2000.

An art exhibit featuring paintings by Christina Haven's art students will be on display in the upper room of the barn. Haven, who owned Dragonfly Art Studio, now runs an art club in Cedar Grove.

Autumn-themed paintings will be on sale and artists will also be available to paint the pumpkins purchased from the farm.

The pumpkin sale will run on weekdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
