West Essex CROP Walk for Hunger

Come rain or shine, residents of Essex County will be getting ready to walk for the hungry.  This year, the event will be held on Sunday, October 13th at 2:00pm (registration at 1:30pm) in front of Trinity Academy on Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell.

Last year’s CROP Walk for Hunger held in Essex County raised over $9,032 of which $2,258 was distributed between CUMAC (Center of United Methodist Aid to the Community) in Paterson, St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark, Caldwell Human Services in Caldwell, Our Lady’s Soup Kitchen in Orange, and Community FoodBank in Hillside.  Organizers of the event have set a goal of recruiting 100 walkers and raising $10,000 to help hungry people, both in Essex County and in countries around the world.  Church World Service is involved in overseas and local hunger relief, emergency assistance, and development work. Local CROP Hunger walks keep 25% of the pledges collected, which is used by the food banks and shelters in the Essex County area.

Walkers are urged to ask family, friends, and co-workers to sponsor them for this event and to bring non-perishable food on the day of the event, which will be donated to Caldwell Food Pantry in Caldwell.  For more information about the walk, contact either Lori Testa at (973) 794-3845 or Church World Services at 1-888-CWS-CROP.  For information about current assistance provided by Church World Services, visit their web site - www.churchworldservice.org.
