 Hazardous Waste\nEssex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo\, Jr. encou
 rages Essex County residents to participate in the&nbsp\;Essex County Ho
 usehold Hazardous Waste Collection Day. Sponsored by the County of Essex
  and the Essex County Utilities Authority\, the event will be held on Sa
 turday\, May 5th at the&nbsp\;Essex County Fleet Maintenance Facility in
  Cedar Grove.\n&ldquo\;There are some materials that should be removed f
 rom our regular waste stream because of their hazardous nature. This col
 lection day provides our residents a place to properly and safely dispos
 e of contaminants\, protecting our precious environment for future gener
 ations\,&rdquo\; DiVincenzo said. &ldquo\;Our collection days are very p
 opular and I am so glad our residents understand the importance of recyc
 ling. I encourage everyone to participate in our &nbsp\;Household Hazard
 ous Waste Collection Day\,&rdquo\; he added.\nMaterials being collected 
 at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day include pesticides and h
 erbicides\, paint thinners and solvents\, oil-based paint\, chemistry se
 ts\, barbecue propane tanks\, pool chemicals\, photo developing chemical
 s\, 9-volt and NiCad batteries\, fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts\, 
 products that contain mercury\, car batteries\, home fire extinguishers\
 , aerosol spray paint and automotive fluids.\nItems not being collected 
 include latex paint\, unlabeled or unidentifiable materials\, asbestos\,
  AA\, AAA\, C and D household batteries\, regulated medical waste or inf
 ectious waste\, commercial or industrial waste\, empty containers\, expl
 osives\, munitions\, ordinance or reactive materials.\nUnder DiVincenzo&
 rsquo\;s leadership\, the County&rsquo\;s collection program has been ex
 panded to include household hazardous waste\, old computers and electron
 ic equipment. In addition\, the collection days are held in the spring a
 nd fall.\nThe Essex County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is f
 or Essex County residents only. &nbsp\;Residents are not charged when th
 ey bring materials\, but they must provide proof of residency at the sit
 e. &nbsp\;\nCommercial businesses may not drop off materials.&nbsp\;\nFo
