Zombies, Dracula, and Pumpkins

Halloween is in the air this weekend.

 

Halloween is everywhere this weekend.  Expect to see zombies parading through Cedar Grove, and Dracula will be at the high school.  There’s a pumpkin patch in Verona, and costumed mutts at Brookdale ParkPresby Memorial Gardens will glow with lighted pumpkins.  Read on for the details of these events and others, and feel free to add your own events of interest to the Comments section.

 

Third Annual Cedar Grove Zombie Walk for Food

Where/When: Super Foodtown of Cedar Grove, 597 Pompton Ave, Cedar Grove, Sunday at 10 a.m.

Why Go?  The Boy Scouts of Troop 65 and Cub Scouts from Pack 2 will host this zombified food collection.  Everyone is invited to dress up in their zombie-best and join the parade through town, groaning in character, while collecting food donations for the Human Needs Food Pantry of Montclair.  Zombie children must be accompanied by an adult guardian (zombie or non-zombie) for the entire walk. The walk is about a half-mile long running through the Cedar Grove business district and ending at the Grasshopper.

Pricing: each zombie should bring at least one non-perishable food item.

 

CGHS Drama Club Presents Dracula

Where/When: Cedar Grove High School, 90 Rugby Rd, Cedar Grove; Thursday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 6 p.m.

Why Go? The Cedar Grove High School Drama Club's Production of Dracula arrives just in time for Halloween! Feel the thrills and chills as this talented student cast presents this most classic of horror stories.

Pricing: $10 for adults and $7 for students  

 

Strut Your Mutt - Canine Halloween Costume Parade

Where/When: Brookdale Park, Grove St & Watchung Ave, Montclair; Saturday at 9:15 a.m.

Why Go?  Display your creativity at this doggy parade.  Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places in a variety of categories. Don’t have a dog?  Come anyway and watch the fun!

Pricing: Free  

 

8th Annual Pumpkin Patch

Where/When: Prudential New Jersey Properties: Gertrude R Janett, 538 Bloomfield Ave, Verona; Saturday at 11 a.m.

Why Go?  Enjoy free pumpkins, face painting and candy.  In case of rain the event will move indoors.

Annual Fall Rummage Sale

Where/When: Temple Sholom of West Essex, 760 Pompton Ave, Cedar Grove; Sunday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Monday 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Why Go? Clothes, jewelry, electronics, small appliances, housewares. Everything must go!

Pricing: free admission

 

Garden's Aglow

Where/When: Presby Memorial Gardens, 474 Upper Mountain Ave, Montclair; Friday at 6 p.m.

Why Go? Bring your carved pumpkin and enjoy live music, children’s activities and refreshments.  At sunset, all pumpkins will be lit for a spectacular display.

It's About Honey Bees in Winter

Where/When: Courter Ln & Mountain Ave, North Caldwell; Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Why Go?  What do bees do over the winter? (hint: they’re not sleeping!)  Learn about the lives of Honey Bees in winter and how the beekeeper prepares the hives for the cold months ahead. Presented by the Hilltop Conservancy.

Fall Drama "Sara & Eleanor"

Where/When: Mount Saint Dominic Academy, 3 Ryerson Ave, Caldwell; Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.

Why Go? Written by MSDA alumna Irene Foley, Sara and Eleanor is a glimpse into the conflicted relationship between mother, Sara and daughter-in- law Eleanor Roosevelt.
