Verona Schools Preparing Five Year Strategic Plan
Members of the Strategic Plan Steering Committee are seeking Verona residents as members for their Strategy Action Teams.
The Verona Board of Education is working on a new five-year strategic plan, to take effect beginning September of 2013.
Elizabeth Jewett, Director of Instruction Studies, updated the Verona Board of Education on the developments of the strategic plan, which aims to “ensure our collective focus and resources remain centered upon student achievement.”
Jewett is working with a steering committee comprised of 25 members of the Verona community as well as Consultant Judy Ferguson to develop the mission, goals, strategies, core values and commitments of the Verona School District.
Jewett is looking for additional members of the Verona community for Action Teams to “outline the expectations and result for each strategy.” Action Team members will work with Jewett and the other members between January and May of this year to outline strategies which include parent outreach, hiring practices, cyber-bullying, responsible use of technology and many others.
During the Tuesday night meeting, Jewett presented the new mission statement for the new strategic plan.
“The Mission of the Verona Public Schools, the center of an engaged and supportive community, is to empower students to achieve their potential as active learners and productive citizens through rigorous curricula and meaningful, enriching experiences,” said Jewett.
The goals for the next five years include:
- “All students articulate and embody our core values.”
- “All students demonstrate meaningful academic and social growth.”
- “All students independently apply learning experiences to new contexts.”
- “All students graduate from high school with a thoughtful plan for the future.”
