The 2012 Battle of the Barristers (BOTB) Softball Tournament is a fun, all-day event that helps city kids go to rural summer camp. The Battle of the Barristers Tournament will take place tomorrow. 

Preliminary division games will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Brookdale Park, followed by a championship game at 6:30 p.m. at Yogi Berra Stadium on the Montclair State University campus. Admission is free with an all-you-can-eat BBQ from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gates open from 6–10 p.m. All teams and their guests are encouraged to attend the championship game and the post-game party.

Teams make donations based on their ranking and the kinds of plays they made. For example, a home run costs $125, grand slams $500 and double plays or strikeouts $125. The minimum a team pays is $5,750; the maximum is $8,500.

Event organizers said last year’s tournament made it possible for more than 400 children to attend summer camp. This year, the group hopes to surpass that number.

The tournament is comprised of attorneys from at least a dozen Essex County, New Jersey law firms. This year’s tournament chairs are Angelo J. Genova and Douglas E. Solomon from the Newark-based firm Genova Burns Giantomasi & Webster.

Rain date for the event is Wednesday.
