The annual “Miles of Hope” Turkey Trot will return to Verona Park on Nov. 24 to raise money for a Verona child suffering from a rare, fatal disease.
Team Zoey is a chapter of the Progeria Research Foundation, which seeks to develop treatments and find a cure for the progeria, a disease that causes rapid aging at about seven to 10 times the normal rate in children.
Zoey Penny was diagnosis at the age of five months and her family has been working to find a cure ever since.
The organization is holding this event “to raise awareness of Progeria, an extremely rare fatal genetic disease that affects children by causing them to rapidly age in their skin, bones, as well as in general health,” members of Team Zoey said. “All proceeds will go to helping find a cure for Progeria.”
Last year, hundreds participated in the first annual Turkey Trot.
This year's 5k and 1-mile walk starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., the 5k starts at 9:15 a.m., followed by the 2-mile fun run and walk at 10 a.m.
The donations for runners are:

Walker Registration is:
- Free for children six and under
- Ages 7-12: $10.00
- Ages 13 & Over: $20.00
