Road Rage Leads to Choking Incident, Cops Say
A Cedar Grove man allegedly choked a person after a road rage incident on Schooley’s Mountain Road, Hackettstown Police said.
Rocco Malanga, 29, was a passenger inside a vehicle heading northbound on Schooley’s Mountain Road last Thursday around 7 p.m. when a motorist from Independence Township passed him, Det. Darren Tynan said.
The Grove Parking Application Gets Approval
After two months of deliberations and hearings, the Cedar Grove Planning Board approved an application from The Grove catering hall for 39 new parking spaces Tuesday night.
The board’s 7-1 approval, following a three-hour meeting, is contingent on several conditions being met by the facility including the elimination of grass islands for additional parking, granting certain off-site parking conditions and allowing smaller buffer zones in certain areas.
Council Discusses Possible Redevelopment of Panther Park
The Cedar Grove Township Council revisited the idea to redevelop Panther Park during its Monday night meeting.
“There are a few different concept drawings but the one that has generated the most interest includes a multipurpose football, soccer and lacrosse field with stands, a walking and running track, parking, lighting, concession stands and restrooms,” said Town Manager Tom Tucci.

Longtime Caldwell Municipal Attorney and a statewide authority in land use matters Stuart R. Koenig died suddently on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012. He was 65.
Koenig died suddenly while playing tennis, a sport that he loved, at the Bradford Bath and Tennis Club in Cedar Grove.
Verona's Hobcaw Cafe Closes
After slightly more than two years of serving the Verona community with fresh, Southern-inspired food, Verona’s popular Hobcaw Cafe permanently closed its doors Tuesday.
Nancy McArthur, a National Gourmet Institute graduate opened the restaurant in May 2010 offering seasonal menus, featuring Southern-inspired food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, using only fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.
Verona Football Must Be Moved Because of Sinkhole
Verona’s home football games will have to be moved off of the main football field to a lower field, school officials said late last week.
That’s because of a sinkhole has opened on the field and a preliminary report showing there are other problems underneath the field’s surface – including metal under the field’s northeast corner.
