New Jersey-based pop rock upstarts Reverse Order, featuring singing tandem Cruise Russo and his brother, John, will perform at the Verona Community Pool tonight beginning at 6:30.
The band is touring in support of the release of their new EP, Right Now, which features original music they released in June.
They’re a versatile troupe, according to Cruise Russo, who said fans not yet familiar with the band’s original tunes will have plenty of opportunities to sing along tomorrow night. Besides the Russos, the band includes guitarist Drew Katsock, 19 and bassist Frank Spangler, 21.
“We’ll be doing a lot of popular, Top 40 songs,” he said. “We have original music, we’ll play a few of those songs, but for something like this, we’ll do mostly covers.”
Cruise said Reverse Order is accustomed to playing concerts like the one coming up at the pool.
“We’ve played everything,” he said. “We’ve played coffee shops for just, like, two people. We’ve played festivals in front of 2,000 people. We’re comfortable playing in any environment.”
Reverse Order recently wrapped up a tour of the Midwest. They have played more than 400 shows since 2008, including both the Bamboozle and Warped Tours.
The band was even hand-picked by platinum-selling Third Eye Blind to provide main support for them at a show last summer. They have also shared the stage with Peter Frampton and Hawthorne Heights.
One thing that never changes at a Reverse Order show, regardless of the turnout, said Cruise Russo, is the band’s energy.
“We try to make sure everybody leaves the show totally rejuvenated,” he said. “Our live show is really intense, a lot of jumping around, dancing and singing along.”
Cruise Russo said the band is going to continue to push as hard as possible for future success.
His brother, John, has come up with a unique way to allow the band to continue touring and not interrupt the band’s busy schedule — continuing his education by going to college online.
“The New Jersey music scene is totally different from every other music scene,” he said. “You really have to work hard. We’ve put in all the work.”
