Police Chase Stolen Car Through Cedar Grove
Cedar Grove Police chased a stolen white Audi through the streets of Cedar Grove and into Verona Thursday morning.
Cedar Grove police officers pursued a stolen car on a high-speed chase through the township and then into Verona on Thursday before the chase was called off, Cedar Grove police reported.
Officials said an officer saw a white 2001 Audi A8 at stopped in the middle of Bowden Road with its headlights out at 5:20 a.m. and stopped to investigate.
The Audi, occupied by three black men, took off, refusing to stop, police said.
Two officers chased the car through several Cedar Grove streets before the chase continued on Bloomfield Avenue in Verona.
“Due to road conditions and the excessive speed of the Audi, the officers discontinued attempts to stop the car for reasons of public safety,” police said.
The car was last seen heading east on Bloomfield Avenue toward Montclair, said Cedar Grove Police Chief Richard Vanderstreet.
Police later discovered the Audi was stolen in Paramus on Feb. 4.
The Bowden Road scene where the Audi was first stopped was checked for evidence, police said, but nothing was found.
Police remind residents to lock and alarm their vehicles when unattended and that valuables should be secured.
“Our officers are constantly patrolling the streets but we need help from residents in attempting to reduce the opportunity of thefts,” said Vanderstreet. “Residents should remember to lock and alarm their vehicles and not leave running vehicles unattended.”
