Area Firefighters to Face Off in Rib-Eating Contest [Poll]
Caldwell Fire Department and Hog Wild BBQ invite community to first annual competition.
Nine firefighters and an EMT will compete next Saturday in the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department’s first annual rib-eating contest.
The contest, organized in conjunction with Hog Wild BBQ in Caldwell, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13, on the municipal parking deck on the corner of Bloomfield and Roseland avenues.
Fire departments from Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Essex Fells, Fairfield, Livingston, North Caldwell, Roseland, Verona and West Caldwell will be represented, as well as the West Essex First Aid Squad.
The community is invited from noon to 4 p.m. to enjoy barbecue and hang out at the beer garden, with the competition kicking off at 2 p.m.
“It’s like a wet-down without a new truck,” said Drew Daniolowitcz of Hog Wild. “It’s a nice day to get kids out and about.”
In addition to food and a deejay, there will be information about fire safety, face painting, a clown and corn hole games.
The winner will receive a trophy, a $250 gift certificate for their fire department, and bragging rights.
Hog Wild will donate proceeds from the day to the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Dept.
